FAQs – Dent Solution FX Dent Repair

What is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)?
It is a revolutionary process that allows minor to large-sized dents, dings & automotive hail damage to be removed while preserving the vehicle’s original paint and finish.
How is it done?
To perform a paintless dent repair, a skilled Dent Solution FX technician works from the backside of the panel, using metal rods and picks to massage out minor dents and dings ranging from creases and parking lot dings to hail damage.
How long does it take?
Automotive hail repairs can take between 2-3 days. The average dent or ding repair usually takes only 10 to 20 minutes, from start to finish. It can be done while you wait!
Do you report to Carfax?
No, because we do not rebuild or otherwise alter your vehicle at all.
When Can Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) Be Used?
Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) can be used to repair hail damage, dents, and dings. The Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) process restores the surface without needing to replace paint or metals.
What percentage of dents and dings are repairable?

Although not all dents can be repaired paintless, with modern tools and technics you would be surprised at the damage that a qualified master technician can fix.  Since you can save both time and money on your repair while preserving the factory paint and value of your vehicle, we recommend that you consult a Dent Solution FX Technician before you decide on the repair option that is best for you.

What types of dents and dings cannot be repaired?
Most dings and dents can be made to look “better,” some requiring more time and effort depending on the accessibility of the dent. There are, however, some problem repairs:
Deep dents – On very deep dings and dents, the metal is often pushed too deep for a complete repair.
Dents near the edge of panels – Dents found near the edge of body panels or right on a seam can make access impossible.
Dents and Dings with Deep Creases – It usually requires a skilled dent repair technician to repair creased dents, depending on the crease’s severity. In many cases, a 100% repair is not possible.
What about dents and dings located under braces?
Most of the dents found under braces can be accessed and removed by your Dent Solution Technician.
What size dents can be repaired using Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) technology?
The essential aspect to consider when using Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is not the diameter of the dent but the depth. Often very large, shallow dents can be removed or, at least, improved.
What is the cost of Paintless Dent Repair?

It generally runs about one-quarter of the cost of conventional body shop methods, depending on how many dents you have, each dent’s size, and the dents’ placement. Dent Solutions gives discounts when removing multiple dents in the same appointment, so it is more cost-effective to have all your dents repaired at once. The First dent will be FULL PRICE; however, each dent after that will be substantially less.

I got a cheaper estimate to repair my car by replacing and repainting rather than PDR. Why would I use PDR?

Repainting any part of your vehicle (except its bumpers) will result in diminished value. Car dealers are experts at finding repainted panels and shoddy workmanship, and the Carfax report can reduce your vehicle’s trade-in value by hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

What are the benefits of Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) over conventional body repair?
  1. Protects The Value Of Your Vehicle While Preserving Factory Paint

The original paint surface is not altered in any way and is kept intact; this method is the closest you can get to the dent, never happening in the first place. No grinding, bondo, fillers, or primers are needed because your original factory paint is not disturbed. There are no problems with filler or paint shrinkage months after the repair, typically with most body shop repairs.

Cost is also a significant benefit of Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). Repairs are typically between one-quarter to one-third the cost of conventional dent repair.

  1. Save Time And Money On Your Repair

Time savings is yet another advantage. Many dents can be fixed in less than an hour. Hail damage is typically fixed in one-three days with Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). A body shop may take 2-3 weeks for the same type of damage.

  1. Paintless Dent Repairs (PDR) Is An Environmentally Friendly Option

Environmental concerns are another benefit of Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). Since this process keeps the original factory paint on your vehicle, there is no need for the paint, chemicals, or other toxins used extensively in body shops when repairing dents. Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is 100% environmentally friendly.

– Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is revolutionizing the world of dent and ding repair!

Can I get an estimate by sending you a picture?

Answer: Yes. We can provide a price range for a dent repair. That said, we prefer to see the vehicle in person because there are several factors that we cannot account for with a photo, such as sound-deadening material on the inside of the panel or a crash intrusion bar. Moreover, some dents can be so severe we need to physically examine them to determine if they are good candidates for PDR.

Another company told me my dent could not be repaired using PDR.

Should I take it to a body shop? No. PDR is skilled tradecraft, and success is highly dependent on the technician who does the work.  The Dent Solution team of master technicians can repair dents that most other repair shops cannot.

What Should You Know About The Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) Process?

No two dents are the same! A dent is caused by something forcefully hitting the affected panel and affecting the surface of the metal with an indention…with that said, when a 1-inch dent is nocked in with a soft rubber object compared to a sharp metal object nocking a dent into the panel creating a 1-inch dent the center would be much more difficult to remove the sharp dent then the soft one which establishes the variation on price for the same 1-inch dent from one to the other on price.

What factors could require an upcharge?
  • Creases are more complex than soft round dents
  • Aluminum is more difficult to work on than metal
  • Braces add to the difficulty of the dent to be removed
  • Body line dents add more difficulty to the repair

Some panels have sound deadening panels on the inside of panel which make it more difficult to remove the dent.

Multiple dent discounts are priced accordingly….1st biggest dent full price depending on size of the dent and each individual dent on the same car is now priced half off the original price each dent would of been after the largest dent has been priced to full price.

What Factors could result in a discount?

First dent full price each dent thereafter is half price

Multiple car discounts available

Will my paint be damaged?

No. Today’s factory paints are very flexible and will not be damaged by this process. Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is the only way to repair a dent and still keep your factory paint.

Will my dents be 100% gone?

The deeper the dent, the more difficult it is to repair. Even on larger dents, most people are amazed at the results.

Will my dents come back?

Absolutely not. Once a dent has been removed properly with Paintless Dent Repair (PDR), it never comes back.

Can any dent be fixed?

No. The most important factors in determining if a dent can be repaired by Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) are depth and location. Dents the size of a dinner plate or larger can be fixed successfully, as long as they are not too deep. On the other hand, some dents that are as small as a dime but very deep, cannot be fixed using Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) because the metal is too stretched. Cracked paint can also be an indication that a dent is too deep.

The most common dents fixed are the size of a golf ball and under. Most (about 95%) minor dents can be repaired. About 5% of minor dents can’t be fixed due to depth or location. Areas such as some quarter panel opening lips, some forward areas of heavily braced hoods, or the very edges of some panels are examples of bad locations.

CAN Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) help me SELL MY CAR?

Ever hear the saying “Image is everything”? Most people judge a car by its appearance. If it looks good they assume it has been well taken care of. Used car dealers and wholesalers know this. They also know what they spend on Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) will make them many times over what they spend, and will help them sell the car quicker. If you’re selling your car, Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is one of the best ways to get top dollar, more interested buyers, and a quicker sale.

Can I use my automotive insurance for the repair?

Yes, but most of the time the cost of your dent or ding repair is less than your deductible.

Will A Auto Hail Damage Claim Cause My Insurance Rates To Go Up?

No, hail storms are considered a catastrophic event or an act of nature and are covered under Catastrophe Coverage. This type of damage is covered under your comprehensive coverage.

When is Paintless Dent Repair NOT An Option?

Below are general guidelines for when the PDR dent repair service may not be a viable repair option.

  1. If the body panel has previous repairs where body fillers like Bondo were used – Bondo will crack when manipulated by PDR dent repair techniques.
  2. Severely cracked paint – the dent can possibly be repaired but it may still require painting
  3. Heavily oxidized and non-shiny paint – recommend refinishing using conventional methods
  4. Plastic bumpers – PDR dent repair only works on thin gauged metal
  5. Heavy gauge metal bumpers – likely too thick replacement is recommended
  6. Chrome moldings – too thin and replacement is recommended
  7. Plastic spoilers or cowl panels – replacement is recommended

FAQs – Ceramic Coating

How much does ceramic coating cost?

If you bring us an automobile and it needs paint correction, that process could easily be 15 to 30 hours, depending on your expectations as a client. When combined with ceramic coating, prices can balloon upwards of $3000 or more.

Depending on the condition of your vehicle prices can range from $500 all the way up to a few thousand dollars depending on what you are looking for.

Another factor that plays into the pricing for ceramic coating is the size of your vehicle. For example, a full sized SUV is going to be more expensive than a smaller compact vehicle.

What is the difference between paint protective film (PPF) and ceramic coats?

PPF is a thick material that is like having a protective laminate cover over your paint that provides protection to the paint surface from high-speed debris, rock chips, and other minor impacts that would otherwise scratch, nick, or fracture the paint without it if it was hit with a piece of something that got kicked up on the highway while driving. It also has UV-resistant characteristics that help keep the paint it covers safe from the sun and the elements.

Ceramic coating is a chemical bond to your paint that should be professionally applied to the paint surface only after the paint is corrected and or polished to have as clean and absence of surface abrasions and contaminates before applied. This assures that the customer having it done to their vehicle is protecting the paint surface from acid rain, hard water, and makes it easier to maintain than soap and wax alone. The slicker more water-bearing the paint is, the easier it is for the vehicle to be washed and kept clean.

Does ceramic coating my vehicle keep it from rock chipping? Or ever getting scratches?

Ceramic coatings do assist the customers’ vehicles’ painted surface hugely. Keeps paint from losing its luster by adding a whole new protective layer on top of the paint but is not intended to make it not get scratches.

Is it a good idea to ceramic coat my vehicle and then wrap it with paint protective film (PPF) film?

I would not recommend applying paint protective film (PPF) to the panels freshly coated with ceramic coating. The reason for this is the ceramic coatings’ main purpose is to make the paint slick and this could possibly make the application of paint protection film laid on top fail. But having everything polished and corrected is mandatory to have a great-looking finished result with PPF.

What kind of warranty comes with Paint Protective Film (PPF) compared to ceramic coating my car?

Paint Protective Film (PPF) produced by Stek is the clearest film on the market. It boasts a 10-year guarantee and

What is the best ceramic coating brand?

With a myriad of choices available for ceramic coating products, it can be a daunting situation to choose a product to use on your pride and joy.

Picking a ceramic coating is like picking a sports team, they are all good choices. Make sure to choose a well established brand of ceramic coating from a reputable dealer. At Empire Auto, we install Feynlab. Feynlab in our opinion is hands down the best ceramic coating brand available.

Here’s why:

  • Its thicker than most
  • They honor their warranty
  • Fully self healing ceramic coating
  • Great customer service

Ultimately, when deciding on what the best ceramic coating is, the answer is whichever brand best suits your needs. Often times you need to consult a professional for their input.

What does ceramic coating do?

Ever been afraid to ask? Not sure exactly what Ceramic Coating does? How long does it last? Not to worry, our owner answers all your questions in this video.

The answer is pretty simple… a lot. All different ceramic coating terms all have different characteristics with them and let’s just look at it real quick.

One-year ceramic coating is typically the entry point into the ceramic coating for most car owners. The one-year ceramic coating is really just there to make your car super shiny and a little easier to clean. Then you’ve got a three-year ceramic coating. Now right around that three-year term is when you get a coating that is thick enough that actually does provide some protection. It is not going to stop your automobile from rock chips, it’s not going to make it bulletproof it’s not going to stop a fire from burning It to the ground. What it is going to do is it going to give a thin protective layer on your automobile so that when hard water hits it or when you get bird droppings or tree sap whenever any of those instances happen there’s a sacrificial layer that can be polished to re-expose good crystal clear coat underneath.

Now when you get into the 5 to 7-year range the whole different ball game depending on the manufacturer these things can be phenomenally thick. The thick 5 and 7 year coatings are designed to really and truly create a very thick layer that protects the clear coat from even the most robust damage. Now it doesn’t mean that you can neglect your automobile and still doesn’t stop rocks, however, things like hard water staining even love bug damage you now have a little bit larger window where you have the ability to remove it from your vehicle but it doesn’t have to be done immediately.

How often should you wash a ceramic coated car?

A ceramic coating is a proven paint protection solution. However, it shouldn’t be assumed that you don’t need wash it frequently. Every two weeks is recommended.

FAQs – Paint Protection Film

What is the best paint protection film (PPF) brand?

When considering paint protection film there are actually two things you want to take into account, not just the performance of the film but also how it’s being cut. This is an interesting thing that most people don’t take into account; all of the major film manufacturers provide pre-cut patterns for your automobile. Some of the patterns are very good and they’re very true to the shape of your automobile others on the other hand are not.

Their product is serviceable, but the patterns that they provide have gapping issues and excessive amounts of seams. It takes what’s supposed to be an invisible material and makes it very visible and that defeats the purpose of it entirely. Paint protection film by far the best way to protect your automobile, but there are some things to take into account first and foremost most importantly the installer second and even third is make sure you get a good name brand product but also make sure you’re doing business with somebody that has the best patterns.

This is the reason that we use Xpel Ultimate Plus. In our opinion it is all of the above now you do your own research and figure out what works best for you and then you’ll have the perfect combination.

How long does paint protection film last?

Longevity of PPF is realistically around 5 to 7 years depending on driving conditions, wear and tear, and the method of care. The Self-Healing properties will diminish over time. It’s just natural, due to wear and tear.

Do I need to wax paint protection film?

Yes, for most applications we protect your vehicle with a Polymeric Sealant or Ceramic Coating as part of our packages. However if you chose to do this yourself, when waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft cloth.

Can paint protection film be removed?

A: The film should only be removed by a certified installer. The removal method involves grabbing a corner and pulling the film up at a 90° angle. If the film has been on for a long time, a blow dryer or heat gun might be needed to warm up the adhesive on the other side in order to remove it

How do you remove scratches from paint protection film?

You should not use an abrasive polish on paint protection film, as this can cause hazing on the surface. Scratches can be removed by gently heating the surface, as directed above.

Does PPF damage paint?

Does PPF Damage New Car Paint? This type of material is completely safe to apply to your new car. … The installer will use a squeegee to help apply the film to the painted surface.

Can you put ceramic coating over paint protection film?

Adding a ceramic coating over the paint protection film helps to prolong its lifetime and enhance its appearance. It protects the film from contaminants, oxidation, and staining making it last even longer. … The added slickness of the coated surface means cleaning off bug splatter, bird droppings, and tar is much easier.

Are paint protection films worth it?

If you are the kind of person who wants your car to be perfect, with glossy paint, and plans to preserve the value to the highest possible standard, paint protection film is definitely worth it. Paint protection film is nearly undetectable, has self healing properties to keep swirls away and carries a 10 year warranty.

How does PPF self heal?

When self-healing paint protection film comes into contact with heat, it will return to its lowest energy state, appearing to be smooth and seamless. … Similarly, self-healing PPF will “heal” any dings or surface-level scratches if you wash it with warm water or leave your car out under the sun.

What is Paint Correction?
Paint correction involves multiple stages of machine polishing to remove defects, scratches, stains in a vehicle’s clearcoat. Paint correction does not use “fillers” that can hide defects but will soon reveal themselves after the car is washed. We start by removing heavy defects with a heavy cutting compound, this however leaves a very swirly and less desirable finish. In order to get the highest quality and glossiest finish we actually fully polish the car two more times, a medium cut polish and a finishing polish. This process is what get the paint to the best condition possible. After paint correction, it’s ready for paint protection. We recommend any of our ceramic coating options for maximum durability and the easiest to clean and maintain finish.
Does paint correction fix rock chips?
No. Paint correction is used to optimize the paint that is on the car, it does not add any paint. Touch up paint can be performed at an additional charge.
Do new cars need paint correction?
Not always, but it’s quite common. New cars have been handled by many different people, from the manufacturer, to transporters including boats, trains, and highway transporters. Once it arrives at the dealership, a technician has performed their pre purchase inspection, including test drive and it has possibly been washed by a few lot attendants on duty. Once this car has possibly traveled half way around the world, been driving around and also washed without any protection, it’s quite possible that wash swirls and unwanted defects in the paint could happen. We also find that during the manufacturing process, defects are left in the paint that are many times fixable via paint correction, but the manufacturer doesn’t have the time to make their vehicles as perfect as we sometimes expect.
My car is $300k and it has paint defects?
This is actually quite typical. Low volume car manufacturers tend to have more human involvement during the manufacturing and painting process, thus leading to more defects than conventional car manufacturers. Not to worry, it is expected of low volume vehicles to need some tidying up.
I see you use rotary polishers, don't they leave swirl marks?
False. Any tool used without proper training and products can produce inadequate results. A rotary polisher can actually produce a deeper shine than a random orbital polisher, but it takes time and skill to accomplish this. A rotary polisher is also much more accurate than a clumsy dual action polisher so we can get into all of the nooks and crannies much better. Thankfully, our paint correction training is extremely comprehensive.
Why do you lift cars when polishing?
This is absolutely critical to achieving the best results possible. When we lift your vehicle into the air, we are able to better clean road tar and grime from the lower sections of your vehicle. It is also much easier for us to see and correct defects when they are at eye level. Our employees’ backs also thank us, and happy employees will perform higher quality work. Tired employees who are bending over for hours on end to correct paint will never perform the same quality on the lower sections of the cars as they do on the upper sections. We think all areas of your car need to look their very best!
My paint is oxidized, will paint correction fix this?
Typically, yes. There are odd situations where the paint may be faded under the clearcoat and is not fixable. If your car has lacquer paint, this is single stage paint without clearcoat, it can almost always be repaired. Paint correction will be necessary as a light polish on oxidized paint will just end up looking like a blotchy mess.
